Dupont Underground
US / Washington, District of Columbia
Location ID: #10294766
Dupont Underground is a one-of-a-kind cultural venue located beneath the iconic Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. This abandoned streetcar tunnel, originally built in the 1940s and decommissioned in the 1960s, has been reimagined as a raw, flexible platform for contemporary arts, culture, and creative experimentation. Its unique urban history — from wartime transit infrastructure to Cold War relic — makes it one of DC’s most unconventional and atmospheric spaces. Stretching nearly a quarter mile, the space offers over 15,000 square feet of curved concrete walls, dramatic lighting possibilities, and a distinct underground acoustics. Its raw industrial character, with visible infrastructure and urban patina, has made it an appealing location for music videos, short films, fashion shoots, and immersive installations.
Though not originally designed as a filming location, Dupont Underground is a multidisciplinary arts venue that regularly hosts exhibitions, performances, and community events. Its primary use is cultural programming, but it is fully available for creative rentals and commercial use, including film shoots and branded activations.
